Being Cosmo’s resident single gal, I found myself at Kronenbourg 1664′s Cupid Party last Friday evening. It was a singles’ party jointly organised by Kronenbourg and Lunch Actually, held at iFly Sentosa’s rooftop bar. Togged out in my foolproof LBD and heels, I was all ready to rub shoulders with cute, eligible men.
In between chatting with random people and answering movie trivia up onstage (yes, I was that girl), I found time to observe the mating rituals around me. While there was the usual, “Hi, how are you?”’s floating around, I observed a few interesting pick-up methods, which I’ll share with you today. Who knows? You might find it useful to snag that hottie the next time you’re out!
Chat Them Up When Queuing For the Loo.
The male and female washrooms at iFly were side by side, so guys and girls were queuing alongside each other outside the washroom. My guy friend was in the queue, just minding his own business and bopping his head to the music, when the girl beside him, turned and exclaimed, “I LOVE this song! Don’t you?” He smiled, she smiled wider. They started a conversation about club music, which soon turned into a conversation about mutual friends (yes, the queue was super slow-moving) and before he entered the washroom, he got her number. Success Rate – 3/5 (Probably only works if the washroom queue is slow-moving!)
“Can we take a photo with you?”
That was what two girls proposed to two burly guys hanging back on their own. The girls seemed a little tipsy and giggly, but that didn’t stop the guys from rewarding them with big grins and a snapshot. After the photo was taken, the guys offered to buy the girls drinks and it was merriment all round. Success Rate – 4/5
The Coquettish Smile
You know how dating articles always advise you to give guys the Look (look up once, smile, look away, then look up again)? Well, it actually works! I spotted this gorgeous woman scanning the bar, then when she spotted her target (a tall, strapping banker-looking dude); she locked eyes with him, and smiled flirtatiously. She then lowered her eyes for a few seconds, before looking up to see if he was still watching her. He was. Within a few seconds of the Look, he had sauntered over and introduced himself. Success Rate – 5/5
